Alright! We are on the final lesson – how to draw the eyes.
Today we are going to complete the final shading on the surrounding area. This will add a lot of depth and dimension to your drawing.
OK, let’s get to it:
If you wanna learn more about portrait drawing, check out my “Portrait Fundamentals Made Simple” course.
It’s a very beginner-friendly course that walks you through all the basics of portraiture, from constructing a basic head, facial proportions, drawing the features, and finally drawing a realistic portrait step-by-step.
Hi Ethan

hey Ethan, i started pencil drawings after 8 years again and i have just order the set for realistic pictures.youe tutorials helped me a lot… im really greatful to you. thanks a lot!!
Awesome! Glad to hear you’re staring drawing again! Welcome back to the community 🙂
Ethan can you show how can we put 5 element of shading on realistic face.
I enjoyed your tutorials very much. I studied a tutorial book by Betty Edwards which was excellent but I still learned several additional things at least by watching your tutorials. I think that your grid method is much easier for beginners than her picture plane method with 4 squares and choosing a “basic unit” to measure by. Of course, you can always put a grid in the picture plane, which works best for live drawing instead of from photographs and it’s important to learn many methods to find out which one works best for you. She didn’t go into using the blending stumps so I learned that from you. Thank you.
Hi Kim, thank you very much! I agree, as an artist, it’s important to learn from as my different people and as many methods as possible and see which works best for you. I haven’t read her book yet, but now I definitely have to check it out.
Excellent job!

Awesome! No problem. I’m glad you were at lease able to see some improvements from the lessons 🙂
This has easily been the most informative and productive video tutorial series I have come across yet, and has improved my drawing enormously. Huge thanks to you, Ethan, you are an awesome teacher. Thank you also for sharing these videos for free!!
It was fascinating trip! Thank you, teacher!;))
Happy Easter! Ethan,
Wow! I have learned sooooo much in such a short time and improved my drawings significantly. Most of my challenges were with the shading and tones. Your easy and direct teaching works perfectly! You have shared some valuable drawing lessons and I am grateful to you. These tutorials were not only free, they are a gift for many. Thank you! very much.
Wow, I’ve so happy to hear that! Thank you for sharing. And Happy Easter to you too!

🙂 I love you too!
Hi Ethan,
I love your talent. I’m not sure i’ve seen all your videos, but I am trying to see them all. I want to buy your lessons and do as well as you do, but I am student right now and not working so money is an issue, but hopefully shortly after school is over, I can look over your shoulder in your lessons modules.
Love your work,
Thank you, Emma! Please enjoy the free lessons. Subscribers like you are the reason I love creating them so much. Good luck with your schooling.
Hi, how long you drawing? :)) on the whole…
It’s hard to say… but if I had to guess, I would say a drawing like this might take me 30 – 45 minutes. It all depends on how much time I want to spend on it to smooth it out and make it look more realistic.
I liked all your tutorials and I especially liked the way you are able to explain just how to go about what you are doing, and why. Most everything else I have seen or listened to cannot explain the way you are able to. I will look forward to more of your tutorials. Johnny
Thank you, very much Johnny.
Thank you very much, Johnny. I really appreciate that!
I really enjoyed these sessions and you were a great instructor. I was able to do the before and after. I would like to let you know I did not have all the art tools to acomplish my drawings as suggested so I had to do the drawings as I normally do. I had ordered my supplies but they haven’t been delivered yet or before I completed these sessions. I have sent you the before so I will send the after drawing on the grid and hopefully you can tell me what you think. Thank you for your time and hope to follow your other art sessions.
Yes, I will definitely take a look at your drawing. Great job on following through and not letting a lack of material stop you.
Great Course. Thanks
Thank you, Christine.
This really is a waonderful course I’m a bit slow so I can work at my own pace, so I can enjoy what I’m doing instead of bieng under pressure.
Thank you so much
Maureen

Wow. That looks amazing. I can’t believe it was your first try. Would you mind if I post that drawing on the website?
So now I finished. I really enjoyed drawing it very much and my drawing looks great (I think). Thank you so much for sharing it.
I will start with the course when I have time, I just bought it. It looks great, thanks for that possibility.
Jana
Hi Jana,
Thank you for purchasing the course. I just checked out your gallery. Your drawings looks great! Thinking about creating some tutorials on how to draw animals. You might like it. Thanks again. You rock!
Thanks Ethan for a brilliant tutorial , I would love the whole course if it was posible to by them as dvd’s as I’m not great with computers and don’t know how to download and make files ect. Please let me know if they become available in this format,
Hi Sue,
Thanks for the comment. The DVD idea is brilliant and I will look into it. But just so you know, accessing the course doesn’t require any special skills. You can watch all the training videos streaming right from your computer. No need to download anything. In other words, if you can watch the YouTube videos, then you can view the videos in the course with no problem. I hope that answers your concern. And thank you for your input, it was SUPER helpful.
Enjoyed your videos very much, well done on your teaching skills. Thank you Hazel.
Thank you, Hazel.
