One Point Perspective Drawing Tutorials – How To Draw Space In Perspective

Sometime while working on a perspective drawing, you might come across a situation where you need to draw things that are uniform in size.

For example, these could be a tile floor, windows in a sky scrapers, or a chessboard. Or it could be that you need to draw things that have an identical amount of space between them… such as a row of telephone poles.

These problems can be challenging because it is hard to determined how those tiles or windows should dismiss in size as they go back into the distance.

So in this lesson, we are going to go over a simple but very effective technique that you can use to measure and divide space in perspective.

just wondering how do i draw a shape in one point perspective that doesn’t run parallel to the horizon line. Every time i draw the shape which is box, their something that doesn’t look right. so it should be that i hard, but its driving me crazy!!! just wondering if you could help as perspective drawing skill are not bad.

Hey Ethan I order the cd’s Figure drawing and portraits I could have swore there was a cd on perspective but just check it and nope. so looking on here, the chessboard is what I need to do for a painting been racking my brains out, been years since I have done perspective but as much as I look at this one, I cant get it in my head how to turn it so that a corner is in the center foreground, in this one you have the vanishing point on the horizon in the center, where would I put it for the corner of the chessboard to be in center or off a bit got such a good idea for a painting and cant get anywhere until this part is done PLUS you are looking down on your chessboard I want it a bit more less of the squares showing thanks need to get the cd on perspective bad Whitedove

Hi,
In the perspective course, I go over drawing this chessboard in two point perspective and I think that is the look you are going after (the corner of the board being the in the foreground). For more detail, I would recommend you check out that course, but very quickly…
To put the corner of the chessboard in the foreground, you need to draw this in 2 point perspective by putting one vanishing on on the far left and then another one on the far right and have all the lines converge to these points.
Also, to change the angle of view (so that you are not so high up and looking down at the board… but rather more leveled with it), simply bring the horizon line LOWER so that it is closer to the board. This way, it will look as if the observer is more leveled with the board.
