Drawing A Figure From Imagination – Part 1

In this video, we’ll pick up where we left off and draw several figures in different positions.Let’s watch through the first figure drawing…

We’ll start by creating a simple frame for the body (again we covered this in the last lesson) and then we’ll add some flesh to the figure to make it more full.

When drawing the stick figure, remember that you can use “move lines” to help you create it. You certainly don’t have to do this, but it might be a helpful tool.

One thing to notice when filling in the figure is that the human figure is very “organic.” In other words, it is very curvy and there is rarely a straight line. Keep this in mind when you are drawing.

After you’ve filled out the figure, you can erase the guiding frame that we first drew.

Now we can add in any details like clothes and accessories. For this drawing, we’ll be a little creative and add in some wings to the female figure.

As you are drawing your figure, it might look a little stiff. Don’t worry. As you fill in the little details, the figure will begin to look more lifelike.

And of course, when drawing the human body from imagination, you can’t ignore the importance of having a good knowledge of anatomy.

The same process will apply to the other figures we are going to draw. Please refer to the video for details and draw along.

When drawing from your imagination, it’s very common to have to erase and make lots of changes. Don’t panic, this is normal and even the best artist in the world do this.

Just be patient, practice, and your drawings will get better and better with time.
